Company Description
The Irish Association for Economic Geology (IAEG) is a not-for-profit professional body that brings together geoscientists with a focus on economic geology. Founded in 1973, the Association now boasts a membership of more than 200 individuals, ranging from industry practitioners and university researchers to state-sector specialists, both in Ireland and abroad.
IAEG's core activities centre on knowledge-sharing and professional development. A ten-member Council, working on a voluntary basis, organises regular lecture meetings-often featuring invited speakers from overseas-an annual weekend course, and a series of field tours at home and abroad. Standing committees address issues of relevance to the mineral-exploration industry, and the Association holds representation on the National Committee for Geology and the Institute of Geologists of Ireland. It also played a key role in establishing the European Geologist title and is a major sponsor of the Institute of Geologists of Ireland, supporting the professional affairs of Irish geoscientists.
The Association welcomes visiting economic geologists to Ireland and offers expert advice on accessing mineral deposits and localities, making it a vital hub for anyone involved in the exploration and study of Ireland's geological resources.
