Kilmacowen Community Preschool and Playgroup CLG

Kilmacowen Community Preschool and Playgroup is a small, non-profit making community playgroup operating as a parent cooperative. It provides a sessional preschool service from Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 12.30pm, for children aged from two years and eight months to five years, with a maximum capacity of twenty children at any one time. The service follows Aistear and Siolta principles and is operated by fully qualified staff.

The playgroup is run from the old Kilmacowen National School, a building constructed in 1846, and has been providing preschool classes to the Ransboro community since 1984. Established as a parent cooperative, it encourages parents to observe and participate in their children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. The setting aims to help children become independent, creative, and divergent thinkers who are willing to ask questions, take risks, and practice self-control, while developing social, physical, and intellectual skills in an environment that cultivates individual awareness and respect for others.
