Killoo Church Restoration Project CLG

Killoo Church Restoration Project Company Limited by Guarantee was established in 2022 by a group of local people interested in the rich history of their native place. The company focuses on the conservation, protection and interpretation of Killoo Church, an ancient site dating from circa the 11th century. Situated on a prehistoric island site with evidence of settlement back to the 6th century, the church is of great historical significance and architectural importance. The project aims to tell the story of this microcosm of changing roles in Irish church, politics and society. The company secured funding to conserve the heritage and interprets the history for visitors, educators and historians. It invites the public to visit the site to understand how the ancient community lived and prayed. The organisation relies on the support of the McCabe family, key sponsors and the Friends of Killoo. It also encourages volunteers, sponsors and donors to support its work in preserving Ireland's past for future generations.
