Maratacht Teoranta

Maratacht Teoranta runs a residential “marine Gaeltacht” summer programme on Cape Clear Island, West Cork, designed for 13‑17‑year‑olds who have a grá for the sea and a curiosity about marine life. Over a week‑long stay participants combine language practice in Gaeilge with hands‑on marine activities – kayaking, snorkelling, stand‑up paddle‑boarding, coasteering, fishing, ornithology, bat‑detecting and more – while exploring the island’s heritage and the wider ecological and economic issues facing our oceans.

The course links directly to second‑level curriculum subjects in geography, history and Irish, and aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 13, 14 and 15. Each camper completes a personal portfolio of projects, gains practical water‑skill qualifications and builds a network of like‑minded friends. With a strong emphasis on experiential learning, Maratacht blends adventure, scientific inquiry and cultural immersion to give teenagers a thorough understanding of marine ecology, climate change and island life, all delivered in a supportive, fun‑filled environment.
