It aims to provide affordable, accessible, high quality early education and care to young children in the community in an inviting, warm environment. The facility is open Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 5.30pm and caters for 40 children at any time, aged between 2½ and 5½ years old, who are required to be toilet trained. It offers morning and afternoon sessions, with optional morning, afternoon and afterschool clubs, and operates for 38 weeks per year for the ECCE scheme and 50 weeks per year for the NCS, running camps outside the ECCE calendar. The service adopts the Montessori approach, using “prepared environments” where children follow a set programme of tasks covering everyday life skills, social graces, and subjects including Mathematics, Reading and Writing, History and Geography, Science, Sensorial, Music, Irish, Art and Drama. Children have access to play and learning spaces, including an outdoor play area. Parents can avail of the ECCE and NCS schemes, and the service supports the Access and Inclusion Model (AIM) to enable children who may require additional supports to participate fully in the ECCE programme.
