Openstreetmap Ireland CLG

OpenStreetMap Ireland Company Limited by Guarantee is a volunteer-run organisation that brings together map-makers, developers and data enthusiasts across the island to create and maintain a free, open-source map of Ireland. By harnessing the contributions of thousands of volunteers, the group produces up-to-date geographic data that can be used for everything from local townland boundaries to humanitarian disaster response, all while safeguarding users' privacy and keeping the data free from commercial exploitation.

The community offers a suite of tools and resources tailored to different skill levels. Beginners can follow step-by-step tutorials to add simple features such as postboxes or shop names, while more advanced users can employ desktop editors like JOSM, query the database with Overpass Turbo, or capture street-level imagery via Mapillary. Regular task missions, mapathons and online meet-ups keep contributors engaged, and specialised guides support historians, developers and data scientists in visualising and integrating the map data into their projects.

OpenStreetMap Ireland serves anyone with an interest in open data - from casual mappers to professional developers - and encourages membership, newsletter subscriptions and active participation through Telegram, discussion forums and monthly virtual sessions.
