New Horizon Refugee Support CLG

New Horizon Refugee Support Company Limited by Guarantee is a volunteer‑run community organisation that has been assisting international protection applicants in the Athlone area since 2000. With a dedicated team of unpaid workers and modest state funding, the group provides a safe, confidential space for almost 500 residents living in Direct Provision sites across Athlone, Horseleap and Moate, as well as for beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and Ukrainian families in state‑provided accommodation.

The charity’s core services centre on practical information and holistic wellbeing. It offers guidance on everyday life in Athlone and Ireland, health and mental‑wellness resources, and step‑by‑step support through the asylum process. In addition, New Horizon organises a lively calendar of social and educational events – from the Ubuntu Voices intergenerational choir to cultural celebrations such as Africa Day – and runs online forums and specialised groups for registered members. All donations directly fund these educational, practical and extracurricular activities, helping displaced people rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence.
