Company Description

The Irish Hereford Breed Society, operating as Irish Hereford Prime Company Limited By Guarantee, is the recognised body responsible for the promotion and development of the Hereford cattle breed throughout the Republic of Ireland. Based in Mullingar, County Westmeath, the Society maintains a comprehensive pedigree register that traces Hereford lineages back to the 19th century, recording births, transfers, disposals, deaths and performance data. It supports breeders through a calendar of shows, sales, field evenings, seminars and summer exhibitions, and it raises the breed's profile via targeted media advertising. As a member of the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation, the Society also contributes to a national data-stream that collates reproductive, performance and carcass information, helping members assess genetic merit.

Membership is open to any pedigree Hereford breeder, and the Society offers a range of services including a Certified Hereford Scheme (in partnership with Dawn Meats), a youth club, breed journals, forms and guides, and a merchandise store. Regional branches across the country organise local events, excursions and judging competitions, while the Society's links with the World Hereford Council ensure international collaboration on breed standards and research.
