Salmon Watch Ireland CLG

Salmon Watch Ireland Company Limited By Guarantee is a national conservation organisation devoted to safeguarding Ireland's wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout. Drawing on the latest scientific research, the group highlights the dramatic 90 % decline in adult salmon and the mounting pressures of climate change, habitat loss and migration barriers, urging immediate action to protect these iconic species throughout their entire life-cycle.

The charity's core activities include publishing a regular newsletter and blog that translate complex science into clear, actionable messages for anglers, policymakers and the wider public. It also prepares evidence-based policy submissions-such as its recent challenge to aquaculture licences on the grounds of the Habitats Directive and Water Framework Directive-and issues press releases that champion new conservation measures and a fair transition away from commercial exploitation. Through partnerships with bodies like the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation and its own Salmon Conservation Fund, Salmon Watch Ireland works to remove river barriers, improve water quality and enhance climate resilience for salmonid populations across the island.
