Nore River Catchment Trust (The Nore Vision) CLG

The Nore River Catchment Trust (trading as The Nore Vision) is a community‑driven charity dedicated to safeguarding the water quality and natural heritage of the Nore catchment – a 2,540 km² river system that flows through Kilkenny, Laois and surrounding counties. Working hand‑in‑hand with local residents, landowners, voluntary groups, statutory agencies and other organisations, the Trust adopts a collaborative, community‑led approach to protect and restore the river’s health, aiming to create a vibrant waterway for anglers, kayakers, swimmers and walkers alike.

Key activities include organising public forums and festivals such as the Nuenna River Festival, delivering nature‑based flood‑management schemes, preserving built‑heritage sites, and running scientific monitoring programmes – notably a two‑year eel survey conducted with Inland Fisheries Ireland. By championing sustainable agriculture, promoting water‑sport recreation and fostering stewardship across the catchment’s roughly 100 000 inhabitants, the Trust serves as a catalyst for lasting environmental improvement throughout the Nore valley.
