Company Description
The Laois Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LSPCA) is a charitable organisation dedicated to rescuing, caring for and re-homing abandoned and stray animals across County Laois. Operating from its hub in Portlaoise, the society runs a busy re-homing programme for cats and dogs, maintains a network of foster carers - with all veterinary costs, food and litter covered - and offers a well-known charity shop in Hynds Square, the proceeds of which go straight back to the animals in its care.
A cornerstone of the LSPCA's work is its neutering initiative: this year the charity has subsidised the neutering of nearly 500 owned cats and provided over 70 half-cost vouchers for dog owners, thanks to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Animal Welfare Grant. Regular low-cost cat neutering schemes and a dog neutering scheme (available while funds last) help curb unwanted litters and support responsible pet ownership.
The LSPCA also relies on public generosity; donations are channelled directly into veterinary treatment, food, and shelter for the animals. By combining rescue, foster care, re-homing and preventative programmes, the Laois SPCA strives to create a kinder, safer environment for all companion animals in the community.
