Save Leitrim Group CLG

Save Leitrim is a voluntary, county-wide organisation bringing together residents who share a deep concern for the rapid expansion of forestry plantations across Leitrim. The group campaigns to protect the county's natural landscape, agricultural land and rural communities from the adverse impacts of monoculture conifer forests. By highlighting issues such as power outages caused by fallen trees, loss of farmland and the destruction of habitats for protected wildlife, Save Leitrim seeks to ensure that any new planting is appropriate to the local environment.

The organisation's core activities centre on community-led advocacy and public education. It works to influence planning decisions, raises awareness of the ecological and social costs of unsuitable forestry, and collaborates with stakeholders to promote balanced land-use policies. While not opposed to all forestry, Save Leitrim's focus is on preventing further unsuitable plantations in areas where they would undermine the county's ecological balance and quality of life.
