Pumpinheart Limited is an Irish med‑tech spin‑out of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, dedicated to tackling Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF). The company is developing the PReduction device – a patent‑pending, ECG‑gated, implantable diastolic pump that sits in the left ventricle and lowers left‑atrial pressure during diastole, with the capacity to respond to elevated pressures during exercise. Powered and controlled via a Transcutaneous Energy Transfer System (TETS) and a sub‑dermal unit beneath the left clavicle, the system is delivered through a minimally invasive transcatheter procedure performed in a cath‑lab by an interventional cardiologist.

The PReduction device is aimed at Stage C and D HFpEF patients, offering the prospect of reduced hospitalisations and a quicker post‑operative recovery, while easing the financial burden on healthcare providers. Currently in the pre‑clinical research phase, Pumpinheart’s innovative solution has already earned multiple accolades, including the Tech Excellence 2025 Startup Award and gold and silver medals at the National Startup Awards, underscoring its potential to transform HFpEF care.
