Curraghmore Farm Ltd

Curraghmore Farm Limited operates a 1200 acre mixed family farm in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Kerry, beneath Carrauntoohil, in the Black Valley on the edge of Killarney National Park. The farm was one of the last in Ireland to be connected to the electricity grid, in 1978, due to its isolated location. Since 1997, the business has worked to restore the land after deforestation and intensive sheep grazing, planting native broadleaf woodlands, reinstating hedgerows, laying fencing, and reintroducing rare native breeds such as the Kerry cow. The farm offers holiday accommodation in a peaceful cottage, providing a digital detox experience with access to hiking and nature. It also sells homemade products and meat boxes from its Swaledale and Herdwick sheep, which graze on the highest pastures of Carrauntoohil, with national delivery available. The Wise Wool Project, funded by Creative Ireland with Kerry County Council support, provides workshops in schools and community venues. An Adopt a Tree initiative, supported by the MacGillycuddy Reeks European Innovation Partnership Project, plants diverse native trees that will not be felled or sold.
