The Irish Peatland Conservation Council

The Irish Peatland Conservation Council (IPCC) is a national charity dedicated to protecting and restoring Ireland's peatland habitats for present and future generations. Through its six nature reserves and the Bog of Allen Nature Centre, the IPCC safeguards wildlife, promotes biodiversity and raises public awareness of the ecological and climate-change importance of bogs.

Key activities include hands-on peatland restoration-such as re-establishing burned, forested and industrial cutaway sites and encouraging Sphagnum moss growth-alongside a suite of DIY tools and resources for volunteers. The Council also runs a vibrant education programme, offering school tours, field studies, scavenger hunts and a "Peatland Passport" for families and individuals. Citizen-science projects such as the Hop-to-It National Frog Survey, the Butterfly Project at Lullymore West, and the option to "purchase an acre" of endangered bogland engage the wider community in active conservation.

By providing visitor maps for sites like Coad Bog, Girley Bog and Lodge Bog, and publishing the "Action for Bogs" campaign updates, the IPCC connects people across Ireland with the rich heritage and future of peatland ecosystems.
