Sonairte the National Ecology Centre CLG

Sonairte the National Ecology Centre is an interactive visitor centre and educational charity dedicated to fostering ecological awareness and sustainable living across Ireland. Set on the banks of the River Nanny, the centre invites the public to explore its walled organic garden, nature and heritage trails, a bee museum, and an eco-shop, offering a hands-on experience of biodiversity and low-impact living.

The organisation runs a range of tours and workshops for all ages, from pre-school groups to third-level students, as well as bespoke programmes for community groups, youth clubs and corporate visitors. Its popular veg-box scheme supplies locally grown, certified organic produce, available for collection or delivery, supporting both healthy eating and the local ecosystem. All activities are delivered by a dedicated team of volunteers and Community Employment staff, reflecting Sonairte's non-profit ethos and reliance on community support.

Open to the public from Friday to Sunday, Sonairte provides a welcoming space for families, school groups and anyone keen to learn more about sustainable practices, making it a unique hub for environmental education and organic living in the heart of the Irish countryside.
