THE CAVAN & LEITRIM RAILWAY COMPANY LIMITED

The Cavan & Leitrim Railway Company Limited is a volunteer‑run heritage organisation dedicated to preserving and showcasing Ireland’s transport history. Based in Dromod, County Leitrim, the museum offers visitors a hands‑on experience of a narrow‑gauge railway, complete with an operational steam locomotive, as well as a diverse collection of vintage buses, trucks, cars and World War I and II artillery.

Key attractions include guided tours that grant access to aircraft cockpits of Irish Air Corps planes, interactive displays of historic railway equipment, and the chance to ride the restored narrow‑gauge line for a 45‑ to 60‑minute journey through the countryside. The museum also houses a range of narrow‑gauge railway artefacts, vintage road vehicles and artillery pieces, all maintained by a passionate team of volunteers.

Open on weekends and Mondays during the season, the Cavan & Leitrim Railway provides an affordable, family‑friendly outing – €9 for adults, €6 for children, students and seniors, and a €20 family ticket – inviting locals and tourists alike to explore a unique slice of Irish transport heritage.
