Derg Ac CLG

Derg AC is a community-driven athletics club founded in 2013 that serves the twin towns of Killaloe and Ballina and the wider Shannon-Lough Derg area. The club operates a modern, flood-lit 200 m rubber-surfaced track in Clarisford Community Park, complete with a 120 m sprint straight, long-jump and throws pits, high-jump area, outdoor gym and a wheelchair-accessible inclusive athletics zone. Members range from "little athletics" children aged five to ultra-marathon masters, and the club offers a full timetable of club-membership training sessions, ad-hoc track bookings and a variety of specialised programmes.

Key services include inclusive athletics (running since 2019 and recognised in national reports), juvenile athletics that competes at county, provincial and national level, and a thriving masters section that participates in parkruns, cross-country, road races and international events. Derg AC is affiliated with Athletics Ireland and welcomes casual park users during daylight hours, encouraging goodwill donations for regular use. By combining volunteer expertise, local fundraising and government support, the club provides a welcoming, high-quality facility that promotes health, fitness and community spirit across all ages and abilities.
