Food Forests Ireland CLG

Food Forests Ireland Company Limited by Guarantee is a not-for-profit environmental educational organisation that was incorporated in 2018 and registered as a charity in March 2023. The company helps communities, schools, and businesses design and plant food forests to restore ecosystems, build food system resilience, and reconnect people with the land. It operates as a legal entity known as Food Forests Ireland CLG and focuses on nature-based solutions for resilient communities and sustainable food systems.

The organisation delivers bespoke, systems-designed environmental and educational programmes in collaboration with local, national, and international partners. Its work includes a Primary Schools Programme, a Community Programme, and Food-Forest Design Workshops. A key initiative is the Infrastructure Enabled Edible Landscape programme, which began in Westport in partnership with Westport Tidy Towns and Trinity College Dublin. This project has expanded to schools and villages along the Great Western Greenway and is further developing along the Royal Canal Greenway.

Food Forests Ireland was a winner of the 2025 National Climate Action Award. The company teaches communities to work with nature by following circular principles that restore soil health, produce food, and support biodiversity. It partners with entities such as Community Foundation Ireland, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, TUDublin, and Munster Technological University. The organisation aims to align with national climate and biodiversity goals while creating local circular economies through its educational and planting activities.
