Fiontar Bia Chonamara Teoranta

Fiontar Bia Chonamara Teoranta is a community‑driven co‑operative dedicated to the sustainable promotion of Ireland’s native oysters and scallops. Operating under the banner of Comharchumann Sliogéisc Chonamara, the organisation blends time‑honoured fishing practices with modern scientific research to protect and enhance these prized marine resources.

The co‑operative’s core service is the cultivation and supply of high‑quality, locally sourced oysters and scallops, harvested using traditional methods that respect the marine environment. By partnering with scientists, Fiontar Bia Chonamara ensures that its practices are underpinned by robust ecological data, helping to maintain healthy stocks and supporting the wider Conamara coastal community.

Based in Conamara, the group serves chefs, restaurateurs, and seafood lovers who value authentic, responsibly sourced Irish produce. Their bilingual (Gaelige‑English) outreach makes the story of native shellfish accessible to a broad audience, reinforcing both cultural heritage and sustainable food systems.
